Q: How do you nurture social skills in students?

A: You provide new experiences for them to enjoy together.

ESD Special Education RI Teacher Tess Versluis recently took her K-5 class on a field trip to Cartier Park. The students enjoyed lunch, participated in a scavenger hunt, learned about different plant and animal species, and wrapped up an amazing day with fishing! The class was incredibly respectful, grateful, and turned out to be fishing pros! These boys caught three little fish and one big bass. "It was fun to see the students put the social skills we are learning together to the test," said Tess. "And our students were fantastic. They had to be patient, take turns with their fishing poles, and be still and quiet fishing pros!"
