Preparing students to take off!
The 2023 MiSTEM Aviation Camp took place from June 20-23 at the
Mason County Airport.
With the support of the ESD's Brian Dotson, the MiSTEM Network, and professional pilots from our area, Ginger Devillers from the Plainwell Aviation & STEM Academy coordinated and directed the camp.
About 18 middle and high school students from throughout our region participated in the week-long day camp.
What they learned – both in class and in the air – was incredible!
The young aviators tackled –
• Reading aeronautical charts and plotters
• Using the right terminology & communications
• Understanding plane ID and other protocols
• Achieving straight & level flights
• Climbing, V-speeds, & descents
• Controlling turns and banks
And much, much more!
The support of local pilots who volunteered their time, expertise, planes,
and fuel helped make the 2023 STEM Aviation Camp a tremendous
success.
