CTE Auto Tech Students Hit the Road

West Shore ESD Automotive Technology CTE students were able to expand their learning recently by visiting both an Independent as well as a Dealership vehicle service center.

The students first spot was at Dad's Automotive in New Era. A special
shoutout goes to shop owner Charlie Mero for taking the time to share with
students the service center layout he uses to successfully serve his
customers.

The students also enjoyed interacting with Dad's employee who answered
a number of their industry-related questions.

Stop #2 for the day was to Preferred Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in
Muskegon.

Here. the students had the pleasure to meet Chris Jasperse, the
dealership's service manager.

Chris took great care to show all of the inter-workings of what goes into a
high-quality factory equipped dealership.

The students got to see the four main areas of the dealership: new car
sales, service center, parts department, and body shop.

As you can imagine, after visiting both Dad's Automotive and Preferred
Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram the students returned home with a much
sharper real-world understanding of what a future in the automotive service
industry might be like.

Mr. Jasperse passed along these words of advice to the students.

"Being a service technician today is a very rewarding ever-changing
career," he said. "This means you'll always have to be continually updating
your knowledge and completing new training to stay current in this field."
