Multi Tiered System of Support
Mutli Tiered System of Support
A Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a comprehensive framework supporting instruction for a full range of learners from struggling to the accelerated, utilizing intervention, assessment, staff selection and development, leadership, resource allocation, effective communication, and system processes and protocols. Academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports are provided within this tiered system. Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) and Response to Intervention (RtI) are part of an overall MTSS framework.
MTSS intentionally interconnects the education, health, and human service systems in support of successful learners, schools, centers, and community outcomes.
The five essential components of the Michigan Department of Education MTSS are:
- Team-Based Leadership
- Tiered Delivery System
- Selection and Implementation of Instruction, Intervention, and Supports
