From The Principals' Desk
West Shore Educational Service District provides classroom program service to students from all local school districts within Oceana, Lake and Mason Counties. Our programs serve students with the following disabilities: moderate cognitive impairments; severe cognitive impairments; severe multiple impairments; emotional impairments; students with autism and students identified as early childhood developmentally delayed.
Students goals are individually identified through the IEP process in which parent input is sought and valued. An alternate curriculum is utilized, tied to the State curriculum, which seeks to provide functional life skills for the students we serve. Community based instruction is one vehicle by which these practical and meaningful skills are reinforced and practiced.
All staff are annually trained and certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention. This training focuses on respectful and effective verbal skills which are utilized to model and reinforce appropriate social skills.
We are thankful for the opportunity to provide these services to a student population that we value and respect as important members of our communities.
